My Final Year at University

Hi everybody! Hope you’re all well. This is a blog post about what I will be studying this year, the final year of my Computer Science Degree at Lincoln College University Centre.

To recap I did years One and Two a number of years ago but had to drop out due to health reasons. I am much better now and feel I can complete the Degree. So the absolutely brilliant Jeremy at Lincoln College (who taught two of my second year modules) has gone through the Recognition of Prior Learning process for me and got me back onto the course onto the third year. The modules I studied previously are below:


Year One


  • Computer Systems

  • Introduction to Programming

  • Programming Data Structures and Quality Assurance

  • Maths for Computing 

  • Front End Web Development

  • Professional Skills and Ethics


Year Two


  • Object Orientated Programming

  • Server Side Development

  • Database Principles and Technologies 

  • Network Systems 

  • HCI and User Interface Design 

  • Team Software Project 


And I started year three but did not complete due to my health at the time. So this year I will be studying:


  • Mobile Application Development

  • Artificial Intelligence 

  • Cloud and Distributed Computing

  • Employability and Entrepreneurship 

  • Computing Project (aka Dissertation) 


The reason I am only studying five modules this year rather than the six the previous year is the dissertation is a 40 credit module, rather than the normal 20.


I have a few ideas on what I want to do my dissertation on but have not settled yet. It will largely depend on what I decide I want to do after the degree which can be split into two directions. Digital Humanities or Cyber Security. Perhaps I will write more about this in the future, but for now I am greatly looking forward to the start of the academic year in a few weeks!
